Using digital ocean, WordPress sites be able to send emails ?

when using digital ocean (via cloudways) will the WordPress sites be able to send emails (like ‘a user submitted your form’)?
I know it seems basic but I feel like I recall an issue about it or the need for 3rd party saas to make it happen.

DigitalOcean block mailing ports by default so you may need to use a third-party solution like SendInBlue, Mailer, SendGrid, etc.

Many Cloud providers block mailing port nowadays to combat Spam. You can just install a SMTP plugin and then use a third-party SMTP provider like the ones I mentioned to get the job done.

Hmmmm how sure are you? Ive just migrated some sites over and they are currently using the default php mail settings and it’s working fine. I used to use elastic mail but got fed up with so many emails being rejected despite the advised dns records being in place. Where I can I use 365 as the smtp gateway.

They allow mailing ports in certain situations like certain users, older droplets, etc but otherwise the ports are blocked by default.

Cloudways has an elastic mail addon that supports transactional emails. This works great. I don’t think email without works.

Very strange. Started using elastic and it worked for a while. Then stopped working. Couldn’t get it to work. Got help from Cloudways. Still nothing. Then got rid of elastic and used a database solution to see contact form submissions. For about a month. Then all of a sudden, it started working with no smtp. Very strange

Not at first, Digital Ocean blocks the ports for the first 3 months (or something like that). I usually suggest using 3rd part mail providers, ZOHO Mail has free tier and is what I use for all my clients, just create an account there with the site’s domain and use the official plugin for WP.

Wp mail SMTP plus Sendinblue. Free and relatively easy to setup.

No. Emails from DO are blocked. Use Port SMTP or WP Mail SMTP and use smtp servers from smtp2go, sendpulse or other providers.
