WorPress site backup via third party plugin

Once Backup v2 is out of beta, any reason to still have a backup plugin if I have IaaS backup, local backup and remote backup setup? Trying to figure if I should invest into WPTC LTD.

You should never rely on the WordPress hosting backups. I have multiple copies. Hosting Backup,Blogvault Backup, And a WP Vivid backup. Hosting and Vivid backup are going to Wasabi storage and Blogvault is on their servers.

I always recommend having an independent third party plugin/option for backups. You can’t have too many backups in my opinion, assuming that they’re secure.

After trying more than a few backup solutions (plugins, host-provided images) I’m of the opinion they’re all rubbish except for R1Soft incremental backups. The fact that I can restore a single file to an entire partition and every small change to the database is amazing. I use BackupRun.com and for $9mo (250GB) it’s above average. If you go with other, more expensive providers their agents collect incremental changes more often (e.g. you get what you pay for).

You install a backup agent and open a port on your firewall. When I added it to a CentOS server it was all straightforward CLI commands pasted from the provider’s site. I changed the port number to something non-default so port scanners would unlikely to find it.

Yes, keep backuping at multiple levels. I use GP’s backup for quick server recovery, not for business continuity.
