WHM/cPanel to version 92.0.0

There was a major release on WHM/cPanel to version 92.0.0 this week.

This update included some rather aggressive updates to MariaDB as well, which may cause issues with some sites running WHMCS or custom PHP scripting.

The WHMCS hot fix is here:

If a website is down with a DB error following the WHM/cPanel update to 92.0.0, try updating your PHP version to 7.3 or 7.4. The updating of PHP may remedy the database connections issues for custom PHP scripting folks.

Answers:

No, v92 release is not related to the MariaDB issue

The issue is not related to cpanel v92 release but rather the release of MariaDB that happened on the 3rd.
cPanel uses upstream MariaDB repositories, meaning when the repositories from MariaDB are updated, then the servers will get the update (minor version in this case, e.g. 10.3.25 to 26).
This update comes in during upcp, and more specific rpmup if your system is set to automatically upgrading rpms.
Disabling this would prevent the issue.
It’s not related to cPanel v92.
Obviously it requires people to understand how things work, which Jim Walker doesn’t do in this specific case.

they don’t use cpanel for their own site 🙂 check the MariaDB change log and see when it was released 😉 the 3rd of November.

People not using cpanel would experience the same issue upgrading to the version released the 3rd November 😉

Yes, though the WHMCS issues notes in this topic occurred after the v92 WHM update.
So that is the topic here – what to do if you see your site not working due to the MariaDB change.

no. They don’t mention v92 and WHM anywhere.

You’re blaming cpanel v92 for something that cpanel v92 didn’t cause.

If I am not wrong this issue is related to cPanel v90

it affects cPanel servers using MariaDB 10.2 or 10.3, but it’s not a cPanel issue rather than something that broke after a MariaDB update. cPanel uses upstream MariaDB repos, they don’t ship their own rpms.

it’s indeed the case 😀 I even broke my own dashboard server, that doesn’t even run a panel 😮 but maybe I should blame cPanel anyway.

Yes, you are correct. I was quick to reply without digging in further. This in deed is a MariaDB issue. cPanel was also quick to issue a fix. As of this this issue should not appear during upgrades.

Damn, I’m having a different issue on one of my servers. adminbin Cpanel/cpmysql/DBCACHE: exit 11

Yes, this week has been rather annoying WHM/cPanel wise.

In the recent past this happened twice. After all, the original cPanel is no more. They were bought by Oakley and now Clearlake.
