Q&A – Dedicated Server Hosting Recommendations

I currently use a dedicated/managed server with Ionos (have had it since it was 1and1.com) and have had it for the past 5 years, but the performance has dropped off the past year.

For context: In addition to my WordPress site, I also have a stock photo membership site that I run off the same server, which is why I need something more than shared hosting.
Has anyone had a good experience with another dedicated server through another provider?
Thanks in advance!
Bryan

Highly recommend fast comet, they use very good CPUS ( they dont use intel xeons ), Digital ocean is good. I am using both digital ocean and ionos. You can install plesk on digitalocean. And rest its all same almost.

DigitalOcean + Forge (forge.laravel.com), I’m migrating some sites as I type this and it’s been a breeze.

Checkout DigitalOcean and Plesk, I just helped someone with a setup the other week and they are more than thrilled.

If you want to administrate your server yourself you can go for Digital Ocean, Vultr, etc with a management system like plesk, WordPress, etc or you go to cloudways, all in one if you want managed service. For Cloudways I recommend Vultr HF

VPS is just as good when it comes to hosting a hand full of websites for the most part. If you want to say start your own hosting company with hundreds of sites then I would say VPS is not for you. (hell-bent on dedicated servers) Truthfully I would find a local company that can host “your own servers” in-house while they provide the backbone for the internet and network if you truly want the best-dedicated system. That way you can build up and scale your servers with CPUs, mem, and storage to your liking easily. I would personally choose a Supermicro server as this is what I use in-house.

DigitalOcean, aka. DO does have CPU optimized and storage or memory-optimized “Droplet” systems that I think would rival some if not most dedicated servers for hosting up to 50 sites. The main bonus is for failover, dedicated unless running in a cluster is just one server running in fault tolerance of 5.0.0-5.0.0-5.0.0 hardware configuration. VPS systems typically run a 5.5.5-5.5.5-5.5.5 hardware config meaning 2 systems can fail before the loss of long-term uptime or the dreaded data loss occurs. I also think their network tools are some of the best out there as you can apply firewall rules to all your servers in one easy place and update them if you are traveling and need to allow your temp IP address access to the firewall.

I would calculate what you need and test it on an optimized DO server and see if it would work before buying a dedicated server, or lease. This is just my opinion, chances are you don’t need a dedicated server or server cluster. I have both DigitalOcean and an in-house ESX vShere cluster and for web dedicated objects DigitalOcean is just as good.
